DEAR,

EARTHING FOR SERVER RACKS - BEING ELECTRONIC DEVICES, HAS TO BE SEPERATE ...

ISOLATED FROM THE ELECTRICAL EARTH ELECTRODES.

JUST PROVIDE ELARTH ELECTRODES HAVING TOTAL EARTH RESISTANCE < 1 OHMS.

CONNECT THEM VIA INSULATED WIRES UP TO THE EARTH PIN OF SERVER SOCKETS.

CHECKS :

1. Voltage between Neutral pin & earth pin of server socket should always be less then 5 Volts ( for best results, less then 1 Volts )

2. Neutral of the supply system ( near distribution transformer ) is solidly grounded with earth resistance of < 1 Ohms and Such that Volts between Electrical earth terminal and Neutral terminal at user's point should always be less then 5 Volts - under any unbalanced / full load conditions

Guest,

Depending on your needs and how much of an issues this is will depend on what is right for you.

1) For a single rack setup, Earth the Rack Chassis to the Earthpoint in the power supply.
Since Rackmounted servers & communications equipment is designed for this application this method will suffice.

2) The other alternative is to install a dedicated technical or reference earth and connect the rack chassis to this earth. This provides a cleaner earth point, but may cause other undesirables such as earth loop currents.

I would stick with Option 1 for your application.

Regards,
Sapper
