Nozzle Load Analysis for Atmospheric Storage Tank

03/13/2009 9:17 AM

Dear friends,

Can anybody suggest me the method for calculating the allowable nozzle loads for a nozzle loacated on the roof of atmospheric storage tank. EN14015 doesnt talk about nozzle loads while API 650 appendix P gives analysis for shell nozzles only. Except FEA is there any method for calculating the allowable / induced nozzle loads, stresses in roof nozzle of storage tank?

You could try WRC 107 & 297 as an approximation (I would be very cautious/hesitant), but the relative sizes you are looking at may be beyond their limitations. You may also get away with the basic mechanics of shell and plate theory, but some of the loading combinations will probably be beyond the standard "cookie-cutter" formulas. FEA would be your best bet.
