33kV Cable Connections

03/15/2009 8:57 PM

Concept designing a 33kV indoor switchboard with 4 feeders and 4 incomers SF6 breakers, bus coupler as well. Now using 300mm2 copper for incomers and 300mm2 al for feeders. When designing cable layout does it matter if the incomers cross the outgoing feeders at 90 degrees , i heard somewhere to try and minimise this due to electromagnetic induction opposing the current in each cable? Does spacing at a specified distance minimise this induction?

regards

Wayne

While bringing the cable from outside to inside the substation you need to provide sufficient loop for all the eight cables considering for future maintenance . So with that you can plan laying them with out crisscrossing ,by laying them at different levels . Spacing is required to avoid mutual induction and damage to other cable in case of sort circuit and fire near the end termination due to any reason, mostly due failure of termination joints.Avoid criss crossing while terminating cables .

Thankyou I will allow for spacing and sufficient bending radius, keeping cables inline for termination.

dear,

crossing with 90 deg. the effect of electro magnetic induction is nil.

but due to practical problems in working, as stated in earlier comment, is better.

The effect of the magnetic induction may be nil, but derating will occur due to the mutal heating of the cables.
