Where are you located? What do you need it for? What are you willing to spend?

KSA? Not sure of the reference.

Still, how will you be using it. Simple word processing and web surfing or higher end programs and serious computing?

Hi abmar,

for the apps you intend to use for your laptop, I'm afraid none will fall in the price range you've mentioned. AUTOCAD is usually worked with in PC workstations.

if you're looking for good robust brands, personally, I'd go for HP, but for your usage, you'll have to select the high speed processing (min 2 GHz) and display (NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS), at least 256 MB adapter RAM.

I can also go for TOSHIBA, but only for the TECRA model - this is industrial grade.

only these 2 can I vouch for durability.

oh, and BTW, use OpenOffice instead of M$ Office.

HTH!

KSA = Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

HP seems to be a good, robust brand

Surviving the spikes better choice is a UPS

Do not start with brand of laptop.

Start with demands of software, do not read minimum requirements; use the web to determine actual requirements from reviews of the software.

Then take the demands your software will make and compare manufacturer's to see best cost to satisfy your needs.

Autocad and such can have very high RAM and video requirements to run *well*.

And understand, we don't know what is KAS, but warrantee is only as good as access, and there are only like 3 makers of laptops - but many names and warrantees.

correct, but all this rams, cpus graphics all brand can met this requirement, but the point is the built-in power supplies. some of them equip with a very good anti spikes and noises which can protect the mother board, some of them are not, if i use a ups the portability of laptops will be eliminated because i will bring ups along with my laptop.

The vendors are not going to release much about the power supplies, but all laptops are buffered by the battery.

So maybe you pick the one with the cheapest battery and power supply replacement cost.

You *may* find some hardware information out there - tomshardware.com and others - but I do not know of any.

I am on my second Acer because I needed to upgrade to more RAM: but the first one still works great and never flinched under LOTS of nasty power spikes in daily use for 4 years of it.

I kid you not: the old fashioned monitors you could see the image enlarging or shrunken on the spike. After a bit of this they were fried, and several hard drives were burned also. Even saw a power bar- surge protector fried.

So although I can't compare with the brands you named, I have to say the Acer impress me for their tolerance of bad power conditions.

One disappointment, the battery was only good for about 45 minutes.

For durability and support I choose Toshiba especially for intensive usage.
