Reinforcement pad and Self reinforcement forgings are used for the same purpose .

And now th question is when we go for RF pad and when we go for Self Reinforced Nozzles.

If your Shell thickness exceeds 50mm then you can go for Self reinforced nozzles because as the thickness increases the brittleness of shell material increases so in place of RF pad we can use Self reinforced nozzles .You can use Self reinforced nozzles for the thicknesses less than 50mm but beyond 50mm its mendatory to use Self reinforced nozzles .

Long Weld Neck Flanges are (may be) used in the following circumstances:

  1. There is no room to install an adequate reinforcing pad
  2. Concerns due to high temperature thermal stresses
  3. Very high pressures
  4. LWNF have better stress characteristics particularly due to external forces
  5. Saves on welding/fitting (particularly one less circ weld on a WN flange and less NDT)
  6. Concerns due to high temperature hydrogen

The question I have is: Is this for a Vessel Nozzle or for a Piping Branch?
