Well, what sort of coating is it:

  • Paint?
  • Cement?
  • Bitumen?
  • insulation and cladding?
  • grease-tape?
  • etc.

The more information and better defined the posted question, the more ideas the good folk at CR4 can throw in to provie a route to the answer.

Please see the comment above from PWSlack. We want to help you, but you need to give us more information. For starters, what is the pipe material? What are the service requirements like?

There is no reasonable answer to your question, without our knowing many more details about the pipes, their size and material, the environment in which they are installed, and your meaning for the term "damper". As I am sure you know, ALL CAPS are considered shouting, and if you shout at someone like PWSlack, who has taken his valuable time to help you clarify your vague and poorly-constructed query, you will garner little respect here.

Perhaps you have heard the phrase, "Biting the hand that feeds you."

Srinivigna,

I suspect that you use the term damper, but you really mean insulation. I think you want to keep the heat IN the hot water pipe, and you want to keep the heat OUT of the cold water pipe. Keep in mind, Rini, there is more than one solution

Try this, get a preformed elastomeric pipe insulation. In order to get the correct size, to fit around the pipe, you will need to know the size of the pipe on which it will be applied. The elastomeric insulation comes with a slice down one side of it so you can easily slide it on the pipe. After it is applied to the pipe, you will need to apply the tape that you bought when you got the insulation.

You did not forget the tape, did you? Good.

Now there is another option if it is available. You can put an "All Service Jacket" over the insulation. This is a stiff plastic that wraps around the elastomeric insulation. It is like a "jacket" for the pipe, hence the name. This will also need to be taped along the seam. This will keep the moisture that condenses on the cold water pipe, from dripping through.

For more information, do a search on the internet for pipe insulation.

Good luck, my friend!

The water bit is easy! Where is the pipe - iin a field, on a ship, in a factory. It is where the pipe is that matters.
