All I know is that the accuracy class 2 , 1.5, 1, 0.5 etc.... relates to the percentage error of the reading, or maybe of full scale or best fit straight line...

So accuracy class 2 would correspond to an accuracy as stated in the spec EN13190 of +/- 2%

Hi all,

Actually in this instance this refers to temperature measuring devices; bi-metal themometers; RTDs; Thermocouples etc.

You have class 1 or A

and class 2 or B

Class 1 (A) - very high accuracy - used more for laboratory applications

Class 2 (B) - not as accurate as Class 1 - but mainly used in industrial applications.

As you can see the class refers to the actual error of the measured value. You can get the definitions and their values with a google search.

Regards,

Craig

I don't know what EN13190 states but this accuracy classification is used for all manner of measuring instruments, not just thermocouples etc...

Ahh I've just googled EN13190 and it is to do with dial thermometers only, as below.

DIN EN 13190:2002

Dial thermometers; English version of DIN EN 13190 (FOREIGN STANDARD)
This European Standard specifies requirements and testing for dial indicating thermometers using temperature sensing methods of gas expansion, liquid expansion, and bi-metallic strip. With nominal sizes from 40 mm to 160 mm and temperature measurement from -100 oC to +700 oC. Thermometers specified have circular scales for industrial use only. Thermometers of square form are also covered by this standard except for case, scale and pointer dimensions. Annex A includes recommendations for selection and installation.

Hi all,

As stated earlier - it applies to all temperature elements - not just bi-metal themometers.

I have a copy somewhere but will have to dig it up.

When we specify an accuracy class on a temperature element - 99% of the time we specify class b (2) as per EN 13190.

Craig
