Laser Light in Nature?

03/19/2009 5:04 PM

Is laser light anywhere to be found in nature, for example in sun light? Or is all laser light just man made?

Regards,

laser woman

Laser is an acronym for "Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation" It is also a coherent light. That means it does not contain extraneous wavelengths, but is very pure. I would be surprised if there is any found naturally. I believe that it is only man-made. However, much wiser and knowledgeable people hang out here, so we may soon see that I am wrong. (That is - IF I am wrong).

Google "Laser" and you can find out all kinds of exciting information.

As far as I am aware it does not occur in nature or as an astronomical phenomena.

sorry guys! yes there are lasers in nature: the UV laser in the star eta Carinae for example: maybe the rarest kind.

There's near infrared laser in this nebula NGC 7027.

Read about the first discovery of a natural laser MWC 349 in far infrared.

Tons of interesting stuff to see at this page http://laserstars.org/abs/misc.html

You're totally welcome.

And please, it's not 'smarter', I just happened to have read about it, that's all... It's a great feature of CR4, so many people with scientific interests, I'm always learning stuff I wouldn't have found so easily on my own... cheers.
