Could you be a little more specific on the object you are planning to lift with the magnet? While your magnet will be quite strong, its adherance to another material under load will be highly dependant on the magnetic and geometric properties of the material you intend to lift. If it has a low threshold of magnetic saturation, (e.g. plastics, wood etc), you won't be able to lift anything.

A rough guess using a 3mm, square steel plate would be 4-10 kg

And additional data: which NdFeB, maximum temperature, roughness of contact, pure force or some torque (usually a lot), magnet backed with iron or even better U-shaped flux guide.

thank you for your input. the magnets are to be used for constructing an alternator for a wind turbine. I am planning to import them from Sweden to Kenya. My brother in law is insisting on knowing the weight they can lift. that's why am asking. I know it is dependent on temperature. is 10 kgs OK?

There is no answer to your question. If it is a permanent magnet, you can attach a steel plate the same size as your magnet width length and thickness with a hook in the center, make sure the hook is in balance with the center. Start out with a small amount of weight, then gradually add weight and it increases the magnet's force. thus increasing the magnet's weight capability.
