Business Travel: Russian to English Translation

03/23/2009 7:07 AM

Does anyone here understand Russian? I have a confirmation of a hotel reservation for a business trip in a couple of weeks time but I can't understand any of it. Would anyone be able to give me a brief translation if I were to send them a copy?

Have you tried this? http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt

It's free!

I know about Babelfish & have used it before but this document has been e-mailed as a JPEG and I can't copy the text to paste it into the 'translate from' pane.

Ask them to send it again as a Word doc or similar?

That's a good source. I use it all the time translating French to English.

I've also received emails in Russian and translated it with babel fish and it translated everything so far quite well.

With the French I've some issues because some of the words that are translated aren't exactly what I wanted, like the word bande, the French use that word for a belt on a conveyor but the translation comes up as bandage. Since I work with French Nationals I asked about the translations and it turns out a lot of words they use have some kind of history behind them.

Send a private message to a CR4 user named LeoTheRussian. Time permitting, he may be able to help you.

Look on top of the confirmation. If it reads:

СЕВЕРHЫЙ ГУЛАГ

you are in for quit a treatment!

I intended a little "bitter" joke. The translation is: The Northern Gulag. It is a more that 200 years Russian (improved by the Soviet government) tradition to send the undesirable people to such "resorts". You will guess what the treatment is...

Hopefully they won't realise how undesirable I am until I've left again.
