Hi spacecannon,

Try typing (or copying) this in the Google searchbox and see what you get:

+handling AND hydrogen -sulfide -peroxide

Your telling me, I am also a hazardous area equipment inspector. If things go boom I am working with, offshore platforms and oil refineries can go missing.

You mean like a rupture disk on a 1200-gallon reactor failing @ 800 psi or the catastrophic failure of the top flange gasket of a 1000-gallon, 1450 psi hydrogenation reaction?

I admire your diligence in making an effort to find out about H2 and handling. It is not trivial and the more educated you are about it, the greater safety you can secure.

Contact LINDE or another gas company.

Without even looking at a manual the first thing you need is "NO SMOKING" signs posted everywhere along with a strict set of consequences for anyone that is caught smoking.

If you don't then people are going to smoke because nothing bad will ever happen to them. I guarantee it. I've seen people smoking while pumping gas and a lot of people never heard of the Hindenburg incident, some people think Chicago is one of the fifty States.

An unusual characteristic of Hydrogen is that when it is released from pressure (or escapes from) a pressurized pipe or vessel---IT GETS HOTTER!!! and will self-ignite.

The extremely wide flammability concentration limits in air makes it almost a certainty that any large leak will ignite.

Its flammability limits in air are 4.0-75% (by vol). You can have small leaks that are burning and never know it. For installations or systems where there is no heat detection sensors you will typically see a staw broom which is used to look for hydrogen fires since it burns with an invisible pale blue color.
