Contact remote manufacturer.

A while back I programmed a small "kit" robot to run off the IR signals from a TV remote control, and drove it around the house with my remote.

I bought a "programmable" remote control several years ago from some surplus outfit. The way it got programmed was to aim any of various remotes at it when it was in the "learn" mode. When it signaled that it got the code, pressing and holding a button down for a few seconds put it into memory, and that button thereafter performed that remote control function, much like setting an automobile radio push button to remember a favorite station.

Would a device like that work for you?

I agree a universal remote would be the best solution as they are usaual cheaper than the original.

Another way would be to use an oscilliloscope on the IR Sensor to find out the pulse code and frequency of each button, but i guess the remote is what you want in the first pace

The oscilloscope method will work but you would want to use a IR Photodiode first to figure out the modulation frequency of the IR. Most likely it's 40 or 38 kHz. Then use an IR Pre-Amp, to figure out the code. To replicate the code you have to follow the On/Off timing derived from the Pre-Amp and then add in the modulation frequency while it's "transmitting". The modulation frequency is used to make the IR from the remote "unique" from any stray IR from light bulbs, sun lights, etc.

You can actually "read" the remote (and, most likely, the signal from the TV) with an IR sensor and a computer- or even use a Palm type device as an IR remote control. It has been a while since I have done any of this, so I don't have ready references, but I am sure a quick search of the Web would provide a lot of references for this sort of application.

Yes, by doing this you would get the same output as you would get from the IR Pre-Amp on an Oscilloscope. Either way you essentially just have a logic analyzer and are reading 1 or 0.
