There is a small flat cable (ribbon cable), that supplies voltage and information to/from the screen. It could be that it is loose on one end or the other and just needs to be pushed back into place. Or if this laptop is older, the cable itself might be going bad, and it will get worse.

The good news is the cable can be replaced fairly cheaply; the bad news is that you will have to dismantle the case to replace it. If your not comfortable with doing that, take it to a reputable repair shop.

OH YES THERE CAN!!!!

If its a Toshiba, they have lots of clever ways to stop you opening the case easily, these bits break off easily, get a professional to replace the cable!!

It's called 'Owner's Manual' that can sometimes be helpful and I have it installed as 'eom.pdf' on my laptop by the manufacturer, DELL, (126 pages of it). It gives you all the disassembly procedures for maintenance and what have you nd has very good illustrations with some texts.

Try look for it and you may even find it!
