Solenoid Valve (SOV) Signal Options

03/30/2009 5:33 AM

My question is that Solenoid valve can be enerdized to open or energized to close. can we have any Solenoid Valve where we have both options with one signal input ie one coil such that when one port is on active side other one is at exhaust side. Urgent reply is required.

Er, and what does the valve do when both ports are energised?

three-way solenoid valve would work.

A latching solenoid valve can be opened or closed from the same coil.
Pulse current through the coil in one direction for a few milli seconds to open it, pulse current through the coil in the opposite direction for a few milli seconds to close it. Very low power consumption so v good for battery operated equipment.

The best choice for you is a Dual coil Soleniod valve, with first coil energise shall open the soleniod valve ( at this duration second coil shall be in De-energise state) and vice versa.

would we require only one output signal from DCS or seperate signals for both coils. because i have seen a two coil arrangement where there were two seperate signals one for energize to open and one for energize to close.

Is there any option that with only one signal one port is opened and other is closed i.e. enerdized to open and energized to close

a 3-way solenoid valve will work for this kind of application, where a single coil energization can open one port while closing the other.
