Can anyone explain the difference between washer and lock washer?

Also you must know what is a washer ? and what is a lock ? then what the lock washer is supposed to lock ?

A washer is flat and offers no resistance to turning force, in either direction.

A lock washer provides some resistance to turning forces encountered when loostening the device.
