Small-Volume Crude Oil Pump

04/02/2009 9:06 AM

What is the most suitable pump to pump 0.92 cubic meter of crude oil over 210km? Is diaphragm pump possible to pump at this capacity?

For such a small volume as 0.92m3, would it be better to truck it, rather than build a pipeline? The volume of the pipe might be bigger than the volume of the crude oil!

If not:

  • What is the diameter of the pipeline?
  • What is the difference in elevation?
  • What is the intended flowrate of this 0.92m3?
  • What is the density?
  • What is the temperature?
  • What is the viscosity?

Following fluid friction calculations, out drops the kW rating of the pump, which has a bearing on pump type selection.

Barely enough oil to wet a hose that long, much less a pipe!

0.92 cubic meter total? or 0.92 cubic meter per second? per hour? per day?

I think you need to rephrase the question...

In addition to the other good questions posted by others. My question is why on earth you would wish to pump such small volume of oil over such a long distance?

Cheers,
