You can refer to following books -

1) Pressure vessel design HandBook - By H. Bednar

2) Process Equipment Design - Vessel Design - By Brownell & Young

3) Pressure Vessel Desing Manual - D. R. Moss

4) Pressure Vessel Design - By Megassy

Yes, those are all good practical books (but watch out for typos and errors in the Moss book ). I would also suggest:

  • "Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment" by Jawad and Farr;
  • "Mechanical Design of Process Sytems - Vol 1" by Escoe;
  • "Design of Process Equipment - Selected Topics" by Mahajan

If you wanted a more thereotical approach I suggest getting a hold of Timoshenko's books: "Theory of Plasticity" and/or "Strength of Materials"

Also here are a few articles:

(you don't need to sign-up, just click on "Request Download Ticket" in the top left corner, and then click "Download" in the same spot.

Mr. J. R. Farr , is an ASME man, and he is a Honorary Members (Main Committee) of ASME VIII-1, and his book "Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment" is very good handbook and was recommended by a lot of organizations like as TEMA.

Note: Mr. J.R.Farr was my instructor in 1993 for a training course in design & fabrication of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME VIII-1 at Arizona-USA.

Also, the following reference book is very good in design of pressure vessels, and contains a separate section for "Stresses in vessels on two saddles": Pressure Vessel Handbook, 10th Edition, by: Eugene F. Meygyesy, Pressure Vessel Publishing, INC., P.O.Box: 35365- Tulsa, OK 74153

In addition to TEMA Section 10 - Recommended Good Practice (39 pages) which is considered as a very interesting and good reference in design of horizontal vessel supports.
