Criteria for fixing the FIX end & Sliding End for Heat exchnager piping

Is there any specific criteria for fixing the FIX end & Sliding End while locating the Heat exchangers??

In a 'floating heat exchanger', the 'tube bundle' has to be pulled out, for maintenance purposes, through the 'fixed end' side. This compels the preferred location for an exchanger, in such a way pulling through a crane and other gadgets meant for this purpose are freely playable.

In most process industries, the 'fixes head' would be on 'pipe rack' side and 'floating head' would be on opposite side where cane and easily maneuver.

"Tube bundle to be pulled out through the fixed end" & "fixed end would be on pipe rack side" why would be keep the maintenance side towards pipe rack?? proper crane access will be towards on opposite side of piperack. please clarify.

No Tube bundle will not be pulled out from the Bonnet end. it will be pulled out from the channel end where the chennal is removed by the puller machine and then it is removed from the sliding end which faces away from the piperack.

As you said there will be enough space availbale for maintenance and removal of bundle. the tube bundle will never be removed from the rack side.

The real need for fixing the Fixed end closer to the pipe rack and the sliding end away from the pipe rack purely adopted only to satisfy the stresses develops in the piping system. if we have the fixed end away from the rach the strsses invoked in the piping system would be huge enough that there are possibilities in the pipng to fail.

So having the flexibility in the piping and to subside the stresses devloped in the piping system it is always advisable to have the sliding end away from the rack and the fixed end towards the rack.

In case of placing the fixed end away from the rack the stresses developed will be more due to the sufficient lenght available in the Heat Excahnger bundle which will tend to twist the exchanger by provinding the torque in the piping system.

Hope I'm clear

A steam engine boiler is anchored to the frames at the smokebox end, and the firebox slides along the frames as it expands and contracts.
