Software for Multiple Lens Layouts

04/06/2009 10:36 AM

I have an application that requires the layout of multiple optical lens for the correct focal length to be used as collimator of a UV light beam. This is a one time application and we do not want to purchase a high price software package.

Is there freeware software package available that will be do simple multiple lens layouts?

Hi,

LINOS (former Rodenstock) has one. (www.linos.com)

But it is somewhere on their website not to be found by ordinary search, so I asked them and got the download and some extra CDs.

Takes some time to get used to it. Commercial programs will need weeks of training.

Oslo has free lens design software that will provide the answers you need, but it is I believe limited to a maximum of 10 surfaces. If you have more than 10 surfaces you might consider Beam 4 which is a low cost ray-trace program.

I agree with Johnfot: OSLO EDU is a free version of the professional software whose only limitation is the number of optical surfaces.

The learning curve can be a little testing for some, but once mastered has distinct advantages over other software.

Google "Lambda Research Corporation", the authors of the program
