NPT Fitting Dimensions

04/08/2009 9:41 AM

I am looking for NPT fitting physical dimensions, to be used for a layout of a air / water service stand. Is there somewhere other than buying a spec to obtain this information?

Do you mean threads ? then Check

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Pipe_Thread

http://www.colder.com/Portals/0/pdfs/NPT.pdf

http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/npt-national-pipe-taper-threads-d_750.html

http://www.sizes.com/materls/pipeThrd.htm

http://www.engineershandbook.com/Tables/npttap.htm

enough ?

But what you mean by fitting dimensions?

If these are for the fittings- elbows, etc ? Then there is only one way to get (without standards ) - go to manufacturers web site and in a few cases they provide the dimensions eg

http://www2.sandvik.com/sandvik/0140/internet/se01593.nsf/GenerateFrameset1?readForm&url=http://www2.sandvik.com/sandvik/0140/internet/se01593.nsf/(DocumentsInternetWeb)/6B09B324D81F9E9241256713003A11B0 - sorry, link no longer available

If it is for tube, it is simpler (and I can directly provide it) go to swagelok website and you will get them. Pipe is not much in use for me.

But I will still advise you to get hold of ANSI B16.11 and be safe rather than sorry.

The dimensions required would be the outside dimensions. I have been tasked with drawing a layout of how an air drop stand is piped and it has to be to scale.

Yes. Kempe's Engineers' Year Book, any edition. There might also be a set of tables in Perry, "Chemical Engineer's Handbook", any edition.

Go to parkers website (or a manufacturer of your choosing) Find the fitting you need (I have parkers books which i first use to get the part #) Download the CAD files in any format you which 2D or 3D, insert them into your drawing.

One note: Outside dimensions of fittings will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so download the CAD file for the part that you actually will use.

Actually, I think that ASME B20.1 (not Asme B20.1) is for Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment.

I apologize. It was late, and I didn't check my memory.. I was trying to refer to ANSI B1.20.1

My dear chrisg288, no problem, but I'd like to differentiate between the both of standards as follows:

ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 is a standard for Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch), which covers dimensions and gaging of pipe threads for general purpose applications.

Whereas ASME B16.11 is a standard for Forged Fittings, Socket-Welding and Threaded, which covers ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking, and material requirements for forged fittings, both socket-welding and threaded.
