What type of machine?

Here is a few possibilities

1) bump stop

2) Limit switch

3) Stepper motor where each step equals a specific distance 1/1000" 1/100mm or smaller

4) Servo motor with encoder.

5) linear encoder.

and much much more

Hi there,

In this case I think you are refering to a positioner for a valve?

If this is the case: http://www.emersonprocess.com/fisher/products/documentation.html

Download the control valve handbook. It will answer your questions and more.

Regards,

Craig
