The distance from the bed to the bottom of the fully retracted ram is 600mm. The bottom of the ram can move up to 300mm (full stroke) leaving 300mm clearance to the bed. Manufacturers provide this data so you can plan for the right press and tooling to accomplish the work required.

Woodygb's good illustration shows this with the ram in the fully retracted position.

Ram stroke is the distance that the cylinder will travel whereas daylight is the gap in the frame.

For a mechanical punch press, daylight (or shut height in the US) is defined as the distance between the bottom of the moving platten and the press bed when the ram is at the bottom of its stroke and the pitman arm (the connecting rod between the crank and the platten) is adjusted to its minimum length. The stroke of the press is the distance that the platten or ram travels from the crank top dead center to bottom dead center. The total amount of shut height adjustment will be specified for a given press.

These specifications will tell you the maximum working height of the press tool or die that can be used in the press and are important considerations in the design of a press tool.
