IF GASKET IS EPDM FOOD GRADE THEN WHAT IS THE m & y VALUES of gasket?

ARE TOSE SIMILER TO VEGITABLE FIBRE GASKET?

If yes try to get some knowldge about its properties from ASME SECTION VIII DIV 1

While I have never worked with either foodgrade EPDM nor vegetable fibre gasketing, I will offer this:

Foodgrade EPDM will have very similar gasketing characteristics of regular EPDM (synthetic rubber);

  • Below 75A shore durometer: m = 0.50; y = 0
  • Above 75A shore durometer: m = 1.00; y = 200 psi

Vegetable fibre is different from EPDM and has the following factors:

  • m = 1.75; y = 1100 psi

(Values from ASME Section VIII Div 1)

In ASME Section VIII Div 1, m & y values for EPDM Food Grade are not given.

From where you get these values for EPDM?

Is there any reference book?

I got those "regular" EPDM values from ASME VIII-1 as well, I assume that food grade (FDA) will have very similar (if not exact) characteristics.

You can always ask your gasket supplier.

I am currently experiencing a similar problem, when attempting to determine the m and y values for a "James Walker TC 500 14 x 14mm Nitrile ring bonded in PTFE envelope" gasket. I have consulted ASME VIII Div.1 and am unsure as to which values should be used. Any help in this regard would greatly be appreciated.
