Thermal Bridging of Metal Connectors on Sandwich Panel

I am using "Truss Type Diagonal Ties" on my Sandwich Wall Panel to connect the external layer to the internal layer. The system is simple and fine but there is a question on thermal bridging by the Building Official. There is no issue on the structural calculation but on the "u" value effect that the supposed thermal bridges will have.

More information on thermal bridging will be highly appreciated. This sandwich panel will be used here in Dubai, UAE where extreme temperatures are experienced especially during summer.

Thermal bridging is conductive heat loss, and can be calculated using the simple conductive heat loss calculation.

You will need to know temperature differential between inside and out, sectional area of the ties (where heat will flow through) and the thermal resistance (or conductivity) of the material that the ties are made from.

I suspect in Dubai, you'd be calculating the effect of solar radiation as well as ambient air from outside to in, so that you can size your cooling capacity correctly. You'd likely also have to calculate heat loss from building at night.

Not sure if they are in wide use in Dubai, but to cool, you'd be best using a ground source heat pump (which can achieve cooling EER of 22 - 27 depending on EWT, more than twice as efficient than most other types of cooling appliances)
