VACUUM PUMP

04/25/2009 9:21 AM

HOW TO CONNECT SEAL WATER PIPELINE TO LIQUID RING TYPE VACUUM PUMP? MANUFACTURER ALWAYS GIVE WATER FLOW RATE BUT WHAT SHOULD BE THE PRESSURE? IS IT NECESSARY TO USE SEAL WATER TANK IN THE INLET WITH MAINTAINING THE WATER LEVEL UP TO THE HALF OF VACUUM PUMP HEIGHT ?

Good morning Jovari1.

What is the application for this liquid ring pump?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

We are using this vacuum pump on Vacuum Bely Filter to filter the solids from solvent.

Solvent is being collected in the filtrate tank before Vacuum pump and only vapors going with hot seal water to hot Seal water collection tank. Condensed solvent with water is going to coalaser and uncondensed vapor going to condenser from vent line on hot seal water collection tank.

Is there any rule to maintain height of cold water in cold seal water tank.

Thanks

JORAVI

I don't have enough experience in your application to give you a usable answer. I used these compressors for ozone compression. This is totally different.

The liquid ring pumps I am familiar with (Nash or Nash copies) need to maintain the ring or "piston" to move the gas.

Need more information to answer.

What is the suction pressure?

What is the discharge pressure?

Is the water loop cooled?

What temperature is maintained or at equilibrium?

Is the solvent soluble in water, or do you get a two phase liquid ring?

Do you see the ring "flashing" when temperature, pressure and solvent concentrations get out of balance? (do they sing?"

I assume you are recirculating water and not wasting it all. Is the vapor pressure of the solvent affecting the ring performance?

And finally my best guess at an answer...

In a typical "water loop" there is no pressure requirement because the discharge pressure is higher than the suction pressure. Water simply flows back to the suction often through a orifice or flow controlled valve from the bottom of the accumulator. Usually the separation tank has a level control that drains water when it gets high and injects water the the suction when it gets low. A separate make system (if it is manual) is throttled to maintain temperature or purge accumulated solvents.
