Check out this web page for the compatibility chart for your motherboard.

LINK

It looks like it will support a couple of dual-core Pentium D processors. I think the ones that show 2X2 and 2X1 in the L2 cache column are dual-core processors. You need to know what processor is currently in your system to figure out if you are going to get any gains by changing the processor. Also, be sure you have the latest BIOS available if you are going to upgrade the processor. Older BIOS might not support the fastest chips that the motherboard will support. Hope that helps.

With 2G of ram, if you get sure (from previous post) your hardware base is solid - think good thought about the various registry cleaners if you haven't done a fresh install lately.

Sometimes when you install extra memory the computer will still run slow because you may have to change some "Performance Options" yourself.

Go into "Control Panel" and select "System Properties". There will be several tabs from which you can select. Choose the "Advanced" tab and then you will see three buttons with the word "Settings" on each of them. Select the one that is inside the "Performance" sub window.

Inside the Performance Options window there are three tabs. Select the "Advanced" tab again and look at your settings. The speed issue may be the "Virtual memory" selection. You may "Change" it and gain some speed. Make it 2046 MByte.

By the way, you may need to first DeFrag your hard drive. This will reorganize your files for faster read and writes. When the disk drive is used excessively the files get fragmented and the processor has to wait until all the parts are found before it can continue.
