Replacement of Transite (Asbestos Cement) Siding

04/30/2009 11:31 AM

I am looking to replace and/repair several sections of a building covered with Johns-Manville Corrugated Transite Industrial Siding with a 4.2 x 1.5 corrugation. This product is a cement board with asbestos fibers and is no longer made. We are looking for a non-asbestos alternative that will closely match the properties or the original material. Specifically we need a material that is fire resistant and that will break into non-sharp pieces as a result of an overpressure event.

I have located two European manufactures that may make a suitable product, However, if anyone has found a good solution for replacement I would like to hear about it.

Also I would like to have the original sales information for Johns-Manville Corrugated Industrial Siding so that I can be sure I am comparing any new material to the original specifications. Specifically I need fire rating, any type of strength measurements, frangibility, dielectric strength, modulus of elasticity, sectional properties and anything else I can get.

I believe that this would be in Johns-Manville publication TR-45A and there was another 32 page technical publication on Transite Siding printed in the mid 1950s.

If anyone has a copy of these publications or any data I would greatly appreciate a copy.

Thank you for your consideration.

In India we get Cement Sheets which are without asbestos. Brand name is "Everest",but it may be expensive to transport to your country. You can check up with your local supplier for equivalent product.
