How to Calculate Heat Load

05/07/2009 3:14 AM

HOW DO WE CALCULATE THE HEAT LOAD OF A 3 PHASE 380VAC DISTRIBUTION BOARD? AND THAT OF A 20KVA 400VAC INPUT 3/3 PHASE UPS AND ITS BATTERY BANK?

  1. Turn off Caps Lock.
  2. Measure the current feeding the board with a clip-on ammeter.
  3. Measure the voltage drop across the board.
  4. Multiply the two together to obtain the heat loss at the board.
  5. Measure the current feeding the UPS.
  6. Measure the current leaving the UPS.
  7. Measure the voltage difference between inlet and outlet.
  8. The difference in voltage times the difference in current is the heat loss at the UPS.
  9. "Robert is your mother's brother."
