How to Charge a Wavetek CT233 Probe

05/08/2009 1:26 AM

Hello All, I've lost my manual for the Wavetek CT 233 AC/DC Current Probe. As Wavetek no longer exists and any of their portion purchasers are less than responsive, I'm hoping that someone might have taken better care of this fine instrument and retained the MANUAL! If not, I'm asking if my (over 60 yo) aging memory is correct that : Red to POS and Black to NEG on a 12 Vdc charger is correct.

I promise not to blow it up without further input....

there are a few manual sellers on Ebay.

They might have a copy in thei archives for sale, but not on sale on ebay, so that search fails.

find manual sellers on ebay. The ones with over 1000 feedbacks

hi

If it is only concern with the polarity than this can be check with multimeter (digital)

by checking live voltage on the terminal

He he, my first attempt in using a search engine brought me back here!

I typed just Wavetek and got this:

http://www.willtek.com/

It seems they either bought Wavetek or changed their name. You can go to their website and inquire about getting a manual.

I didn't bother searching for your unit. I gotta get back to my starship.

regards,

Vulcan

Hello All,

I'd just like to close this one by saying THANKS! Turns out a 'Guest' from another forum had the answer. These units originally came with an ALEXANDER 9Vdc rechargeable battery. This is no longer in Production. The BEST substitution is the use of an ULTRALIFE Lithium Power Cell (Part No. U9VL-J) from ULTRALIFE Batteries, Inc. Newark, NY 14513.

For the end user, this means a replacement cycle of approximately 1 to 3 months, depending on usage. This is the same battery that they spec for Smoke Detectors. The power discharge curve is about the same as if you were to test the unit weekly.

For those of you that suggested Wiltek and/or FLUKE, good luck!!! Several expensive calls to Algemigna (Germany) and even locally to Renton, Washington proved that nobody wants to own up to older WAVETEK units. This is the same consideration I have found for my older SAM units (1's and 3's and the 1860's gear that is the backbone of most return path analysis in our backwoods region). If you don't have the manuals and/or knowledge, you are STUCK!!!

Considering starting a User's Group to exchange Tech Data on these fine units!!

HELP ME OUT HERE, PEOPLE!!! I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!!

Used to fly to San Diego, CA a lot! What was I thinking by NOT talking to these people when they were still there??? Dr. Phil moment, I guess.

Warmest regards and THANKS,

Gar
