Deckwash Fitting

05/08/2009 4:12 AM

Good day, hope someone can help.i have a boat with 2 outboard motors that run off 2 x12v batteries and charge them, now i want to fit a 24v deckwash pump my major hurdle is that the motors are joined by a stainless steering bar and this causes a short when connecting to serial.i have put a diode in the bridge but then only get 12v.

Run one motor off the one battery and the other off the other. It is then simple to connect the two batteries + to - and obtain 24V from the outer terminals for the deckwash fitting.

Acquire an isolator switch from your local marine store. The outboard motors use an engine that is grounded negative. When you attached the jumper it is placing positive of one of the batteries to ground and shorting across steering connector. They make switches for just that application.
