Mechanical Engineer

05/11/2009 5:47 PM

Hi, I am 34 years of age and wanted advice concerning my dream of becoming a Mechanical Engineer. I have researched online schools and have become very frustrated. The Universities in my area have Engineer Programs but I think I am too old to walk on campus. I really could use direction.

Thank you

You are NEVER to old to attend university classes.

(In my mech eng class of approx. 50, there were probably 7 "elders" - no problems/worries/hurt prides/....... at all)

<....NEVER to old to attend university classes...>

Absolutely!

There is much to be gained by interaction with like-minded folk, and it goes both ways.

If you live in the US and want an ABET accredited BS degree in mechanical engineering, most online schools are not for you. The exception I know about (there may be others) is the University of North Dakota, which offers an ABET accredited BS in chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. I think it requires a week on campus each semester to do labs. All the extra-curricular activities (line dancing, polkas, and Swedish night at Slippery Arts in Dodge) are up to you.

Here's the link

Feel free to pm me if you have questions. But, go for it, man!

30 years ago, to get a ABET engineering degree by taking night courses, one had to spent atleast one semester as a full time student on the campus to receive the degree.......of course that was 30 years ago.

Dear Guest:

I just graduated with my MBA. I will be 57 this year. I started MBA program at age 55.

I was the "curvebreaker" in all of my quantitative classes, and graduated with honors (thats what the extra cords and pins designate; the ipod ear buds were "my option".)

Unless you have problems "walking" at home, You should have no problem walking on Campus. If its your dream, GO FOR IT!

There are plenty of excuses for NOT doing things, it's just tooo easy to NOT do stuff....
If you want to do it, just do it, at 34 you must have done plenty of much harder stuff...
Like plucking up courage to ask for that first date... jeez after that anything else is a breeze
Go for it...

When I first clapped eyes on her at a party, I thought "those 2 are out of our league" (always hunt in pairs)
Mr Brother said, "they're not spoken for"
so I said to my wingman..."mine's the brunette".
Never looked back , still trying to figure out how I got so lucky.(The bonde was pretty cute too)

So yup, I asked her...

one tends to keep a low profile especially when one wasn't invited.
