Concrete Auger or Conveyor

11/23/2006 6:16 PM

I am the Project Co-ordinator for a large Pre-Cast Concrete Batch Plant in Northern Saskatchewan. We currently are operating a Wiggert mixer that is not equipped to dump concrete into a truck (as this was not our initial purpose). However a few opportunities have arisen for us to provide concrete for other jobs, now our problem is getting the concrete from the mixer into the truck!

Does anybody have a reccomended solution to this problem? If anyone knows of a supplier/manufacturer of a concrete auger/conveyor system that would suit my application PLEASE let me know!

Thanks for the help!

I would check with Besser. They are located out of MI so shipping would not be a big deal, also they do a lot of work in Canada. Talk to Jeff Walace

I like to keep things within reasonable from an investment persepctive. Sometime I like to weigh performance against investment and ask how much more productivity (performance) will I get with this much more investment? I hope my philosphy works for people. ANYBODY LET ME KNOW!

I think you might have 85% of the solution in your plant. Many people do, they just don't realize it.

Could you use an overhead or boom type crane attached to a conical hopper that could dump the product in the truck?

The hopper would be a 60 degree slope with a slide gate at the discharge. If you are loading cement mixers (I hope I didn't sound stupid in asking that)? A 60 degree slide could be placed at the hopper discharge that would allow the material to slide downards at an angle into the opening. of the truck.

If you already have the crane I am sure the hopper part of the project should only cost less than $1,500 to make.

I have both a 30 inch and a 60 inch diameter polyethylene conical hopper with a 60 degree discharge that would work. The cool thing about using poly for the hopper is that cement will never stick to it, because you can beat the piss out of these hoppers and the dried cement will just flake right off. (but don't hit it if is really cold!!) This might be another feature if you are using dyed cement for some of your precast products. In Minnesota, colored precast is popluar with road construction projects and people homes.

All you would have to do is find a slide gate valve and make the metal lifting hardware I might be able to make a trap door release valve system that might be cheaper than using a knife gate valve.

You should have a maint. department that has welding capabilities at you plant. That would make it even cheaper. I am not a structural engineer, but I could give you some design ideas about the lifting hardware, but so it might be best to do some checking with someone who has more experience or if they could tell you if my ideas would work for you.

The cool thing is that you might be able to use if for your regular production work and not just specific for this opportunity.

Let me know if you are interested. You can contract me at edatkinson@dustcollectionsystemsinc.com. I would love to help.

a concrete ram pump is the numb dumb and stupid best approach-less to go wrong and easier to fix than my lawn mower and with many fewer parts to go sour as they are typically a diesl or gas engine drive hydraulic pump with either twin or single rams and simple hydraulics-open center with manual or low voltage radio remote controls and dumb soleniods/limit switches.
