You beat me to it- I just sent my copy of the summary to Transcendian. Yours is a bit cleaner than mine- I left the ID's of the contributors, and included some of the more pertinent discussions.

I'd say that there's a fundamental question here: is it a list of books that could recover the mankind knowledge, or you're talking about titles containing survival-in-the-wild stuff? Two different things here...

It seems to me, the list ought to be broken up into a couple of categories: basic survival, such as how to get sustenance and protect oneself immediately after the "collapse", and then another section on how to rebuild, after the dust has cleared. For instance, the plant food references would belong with the basic survival set, and the Machinery's Handbook and CRC manuals would be useful for rebuilding.

It looks like I'm going to have to put up another bookshelf.

Seems to me that many of the greatest advancements in our existing civilization are related to metallurgy. Remember, bronze, iron, etc? I would recommend adding a text on metallurgy.

WOW, what a great list ... I might only add:

- primary through university text books (we gotta teach the new youth of our 'reboot' civilization

- books on astronomy (we will be looking up now and then)

- books on art history (it's not all about the sciences)

- books on human history (everyone needs to know something about their roots ... and MAYBE we can avoid some of the mistakes made that possibly put us in the 'need to reboot mode')

- music (okay, not books, but I would hate to not have some way to remember the music)
