Insertion type ultrasonic flow meter

05/16/2009 7:17 AM

For insertion type ultrasonic flow meters, what does a sensor holding look like? for retractable on-line sensor, ball valve assembly is used. how does this ball valve assembly help in sensor retraction? any useful links where i can view the GA drawing?

What you ask Madhumita is not only applicable to Ultrasonic Insertion flowmeters, but it is applicable to all types of insertion flowmeters: Insertion MAGMETERS, Insertion Turbine or any other type.

This ball valve provision is called the "Hot tap"

The ball velve through which the insertion flowmeters is passed is always bigger than the flowmeter rod diameter. Besides, there is one more seal around the flowmeter rod.

While removing the insertion flowmeter, you retract the flowmeter till the end of it come above the ball valve. Now you close the ball valve. The liquid line gets closed. Now, you remove flowmeter completely out of its next seal.

Inserting the flow meter is just the reverse process.

In this way, you can insert or remove the flowmeters without closing the mail fluid line.

In fact, using same ball velve arrangement, you can drill the hole in the pipe, with fluid running in it (provided, the drilled burr is acceptable in the fluid)

why you need for removal generally we call the vendor for calibration check if the flow is incorrect with process . now around 2yrs its working fine . any way what we have done I give u the proceedure . The ball valve is to remove the probes and insert back in.. After the nozzle there is valve after the valve there there should be a reducer with gland packing seal loose little the gland packing and pull the probe out and close the valve ,drop down the reducer with the valve . But it should be noted that the probes are retracted fully ,make sure and than close the valve. also mark the insertion length of the probes near the gland seal before pulling out so as to keep the pitch correctly . bye again putting back again .

why you need for removal

Insertion flowmeter, if inserted accurately at a depth where flow rate is average flow rate, can give flow rate in the line.

Now, your question: why you need for removal ?

Single insertion flow meter can be used at many different locations, with ball valve arrangements. Many different locations can be of different line sizes, if for each line sizes, average flow rate depth is marked on the insertion flow meter.
