Iveco Van 50C13

05/16/2009 12:35 PM

I have an Iveco 5 ton van. Recently it has started cutting out while driving. It cuts out for about 10 or 15 seconds and carries on again as normal. It happens about twice in an hour. The injector warning light comes on in the dash when it cuts out and goes off again. The fuel filter light says that there is water in the fuel but there is no water in the fuel. This light stays on constantly.

any ideas

How do you know there is no water in the fuel?????? Tell us what you did to fix that.

The symptoms are those of water in the fuel by the way......

Andy, I drained some fuel via the pipe feeding the fuel filter into a glass bottle (1 litre). I let it rest for a while and I could not see any water in the bottom of the bottle. I removed the water sensor on the bottom of the filter and cleaned it out with compressed air. When I replaced the sensor the warning light still did not go out.

You may need to replace the fuel filter to get rid of the last traces of water.....

Adding a pint of meths to each fuel load may get rid of the last traces.....

I'm on the other side of the pond and do not recognize the Iveco brand.

Is your van powered by a gasoline or diesel engine? It sounds like a diesel but I don't wish to assume anything.

Regardless, I suggest you apply a few cans pf alcohol to the fuel tank, partially fill the tank with fresh fuel and let it sit for 24 hours.

The alcohol will mix with the water which will then blend with the fuel and burn in the engine in a less disruptive manner.

I am inclined to agree with others that, if a diesel, the disruption in power is likely from slugs of water traveling through the injection pump and related injectors.

If it's a gasoline powered engine, abrupt loss of power, is most often caused by a loose electrical connection.
