Voltage Fluctuations

05/20/2009 3:21 AM

A load survey was conducted to establish a recurring voltage fluctuation problem at a factory feeding from a 3 phase 750 kVA 415/240 Volts transformer. During off-peak hours, the voltage records +15 to 20% of the nominal voltage while during peak hours it records -15 to 20% of the nominal voltage.

What could be to cause of this and how do we alleviate this problem?

Thank You

Saida

Either the load fluctuations are large in comparison with the transformer's rating, or the transformer's supply cabling.

2 options come to mind:

  1. Reduce the load on the transformer.
  2. Increase the size of the transformer and/or its feeder system.
