HP DesignJet 2000 CP Printer Can't Communicate With Computer

05/20/2009 1:48 PM

Hi! I just wanted to post a question about this HP printer. It doesn't seem to communicate with the PC on the LPT1 port under WindowsXP Pro. I've tried changing it to another printer port on the PC (LPT2), it still didn't work. I've sent test prints from the printer itself and it prints them out perfectly fine, however, when I send an image, or a Word document, or even a test print from the PC, the printer receives it but it is automatically deleted after the pending process. I have also downloaded media profiles onto the PC but it still failed at printing it. I've also searched in Services to find the place of the LPT2 and LPT1 ports and the PC doesn't seem to not have anything on the system that I am using. When it comes to printing an image, the paper selection does not show a roll, it asks for a specific size of paper that I don't have. There seems to be a lot of problems with the communication between the the printer and the PC. I know the printer is functional, I've seen it work, however, it was a different PC at a completely different location. I wonder, if at this point, if there is any way for this printer to work with this PC or should I just give up on this project of making it functional?

Never say never! Or never give up, or something like that

HP still has drivers for this printer - which it doesn't sound like you have loaded. First because it is a non-standard printer, well mostly because it is a non-standard printer.

Instead of rooting around in Services, go click on Printers and Faxes and see if anything - especially your designjet is installed.

Go here for HP drivers and troubleshooting help - http://tinyurl.com/rb6yjo

Waaaoouhh!! Probably by going tour the computer 'management drivers items' to see if the port are in dis-able mode or something like that, hey, Who Know's? Otherwise trying set-up the printer with the sofware first and then plug the UB cable last. And lastest will be that the mainboard are due for a nice clean-up job inside, you know lot of dust build-up or something like that, anything. And or Re-Boot fresh start in recovery mode as lifesaver just in case. That will do it definetetly.

Try unplugging the printer from power and the port. Remove the software and any associated drivers. Reboot. Re-install all software and then connect the printer. You should get new device detected. Let it go through the motions until it searches for the drivers. Load new drivers and reboot again. Unless it happens to ask if you want to print a test page. Do what it wants and you should be good to go.

If you have "how to install" directions check to see if the device should be connected before installing software. This is usually not the case but since it is not a common printer you may have to.

I had the same problem when I got a new laptop. Under 'Help', check 'Printer Compatibility'. If that's the problem, it will ask you if you want to run a fix for it. Do what it sez.

Luck.

I think its a "Paper type" problem. See it with HP lasers always wanting letter and only getting A4 in Europe.....(or the other way round)

You need to have the correct paper installed, the same paper configured and in your driver select also that paper and source........also your program must select that paper type exactly.....

I hope this helps.

Don't know this particular printer, but looked over it on HP.

Page 11-22 is where I'd start. Could be something as simple as settings on the front panel...
