Choosing an Engineering Career

05/21/2009 2:17 PM

i am good in mathematical applications ,programming etc and has a desire to do something worth like research ,challengining projects etc.graduated in electrical engineering EEE worked with some companies ,but still unable to find a suitable position .some research and experimental ideas are in my mind but none to discuss with or publish.a suitable job may be a solution.can any one help or suggest .

Also, is there any opportunity for reserach and development in electrical engineering.inventing any new machines or usage.or is electrical engineering a saturated subject.

does hydrogen be used as a feul for electrical power generation.

Shan, I can understand your feelings. I suggest you to go for govt. job in research organisation like Space research, defence research. Better still you can complete PG and PhD it will enhance your chances of grabbing your dream job.

<...does hydrogen be used as a feul for electrical power generation...>

No. Hydrogen can be considered as a candidate for substituting for oil distillates, for equipment that cannot be connected to a fixed power grid. In that respect, like electricity, it is an energy carrier.

I think you still can get admission in better college with this score. If you trying in IIT's it depends on your AIR mainly. There are many good engineering colleges in India beside IIT's. I suggest you to try your luck in various NIT's. They have good ranking beside you can get better research as well as job opportunities over there.

Also for your question of <does hydrogen be used as a feul for electrical power generation>

you can check fuel cells. In fuel cell you can generate electricity using hydrogen.

i had applied for nit calicut ,last year ,but cut off mark was higher.i written gate by selfstudy and while doing job.i think it could be much better if go for study in good coaching class and then attempt gate i can score mcuh better rank.last year i got selected at cusat ,but i had a car accident at that time.bez of it i dropped it.a great deal of luck is also necessary.if i could get admitted to a good mtech it will be nice.

hi,

am also is interested in using hydrogen as a fuel .but i think very few knew about hydrogen as a fuel, how it works etc.hydrogen does not need spark.it can be allowed to come in contact with air only in combustion chamber.i think it will be better to mix h2 with oxygen or mixture of oxygen and nytrogen , than with air mixture.the problem is with storing of hydrogen.i heard that only active hydrogen react with oxygen promptly.if we can make hydrogen active just before combustion it will be a good solution.or else we have to produce hydrogen.one means is by using dc.then we can use water as fuel to automobiles .is't it amasing? it was made by a engineer in kerala, india some years age.so it is possible.but am thinking of producing electricity with hydrogen ie running an ic engine with hydrogen as a fuel and that ic engine be used as a prime mover to alternator.

Well surely storage of hydrogen is a problem. Remember Hindenburge tragedy !!!. Well if you are creating H2 from water, again you are using electricity for it. In this case power is indirectly provided by DC batteries only so why not drive engines directly on these batterie? .This may be more useful. All designs proposed by you are feasible practically but there is also a big economical feasibility(?) aspect attached to it. Also I think electrical engines are more efficient than ic engines. So I think you should take relook(?) at fuel cell concept. Have you seen that ??. It is a basic fact that whenever you are converting energy from one form to another there is always a loss associated with it, as this world is not ideal. I think you are increasing stages then finally end up with decreasing your efficiecy.

Work is worth more than research, thats why it pays.

What is suitable position?

Why graduate engineers hate jobs always want go backschool?

They are working on it but can be highly explosive especially in a car.
