INDUCTION MOTOR STATOR WINDING RESISTANCE REFERENCE VALUE AS PER IEC 1MW/11KV

05/23/2009 9:29 AM

SIR,

KINDLY I HAVE AN INDUCTION MOTOR RETAING OF 1MW/11KV BLOWER APPLICATION.

I HAVE MEASURED THE RESISTANCE OF STATAOR WINDING & IT'S VALUE WAS 1.022 OHM. I WANT TO COMPARE THIS VALUE WITH THE REFERENCE VALUE AS PER IEC SPECIFICATION RO DETERMINE IF THIS MEASURED VALUE IS ACCEPTED OR NOT.

BEST REGARDS.

that value is acceptable.but u have to check that the wdgs will be parallel so the total resistance will be much low.bez for 1mw motor the resistance should be lower.secondly did u measured the resistance using multimeter, then the value u got is dc value .to get the ac value u multiply it with 1.75.actually earlier the multification factor was 1.35.but practically it is still too less.i think motor name plate contains all this detail.if it is given the per unit or percentage value then your task is more simplified.

thank you

Hi,

As the guest asked what did you use to measure the resistance with and did you measure per winding or was the motor connected in delta or star either internally or on the terminals of the motor?

That resistance seems very high for a motor of that size and voltage. From exsperience the resistance for that motor is normally in the 0,05ohm range per winding (no connection on stator winding).

I don't think any specification give a permissable resistance value on the windings (please correct me if I'm wrong) as this is a integral part of the design of the motor. The resistance is also affected by numerous factors such as the type of wire used, the design of the motor (starting torque, efficiency etc).

Regards

A
