All books have value, and are protected by Copyright laws.

In fact there are a few sites that have e books, free to down load and official. Not illegal, But the quality of these books are of course no where of the ones I have with legal tender.

Most of these are hand books, or collection of papers etc, or course notes (many .edu s have them eg MIT etc but again these are like the colelcted notes and not the books as we know.

A few sites have some e books like the training handbooks on their website.

These are not copyright protected and you can download without any legal problems.

eg from

http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Mechanical-Engineering/index.htm

http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/courses.php

http://www.artikel-software.com/blog/ebooks/mechanical-engineering/

etc.

In fact I have compiled a lot of chapters from these to have my own reference books (of course for my own) and can not sell .

GlobalSpec, the company that powers CR4, provides chapters from mechanical engineering books on its web site. Click here to read parts of the Mechanical Design Handbook from McGraw-Hill.

You can't "download" these books, of course, but you're welcome to visit GlobalSpec as often as you like.
