coordination of relays at which place ? generation ? transmission ? or distribution side ?

Normally, coordination means operation of the relay in such a place whereexactly the fault has occured. isolating only the faulty portion of the line.

Zone selectivity relays are available wherein, the ist low stream relay tend to operate. If it fails to trip within specified time limit, up stream relay shall trip.

Distance impedence relays are available, which is acting as a back up protection. If the relay in the down stream faulty portion does not trip, impedence relay shall sense the faulty portion, & only that feeder shall trip.

Its a very vast subject .Easy for you to ask in one line but not for the person replying.Please read van warrington's hand book on realys.
