That sounds like my brother and his new wife. They both talk constantly but never listen. If they do slip and let you get in a sentence they won't listen because they are trying to figure out the next thing to say or they just turn their voice volume up and drown you out. It is hilarious to be around both of them because they will each get louder to the point of nearly screaming trying to out talk each other.

what pressure needs to be maintained? at what volume (cfm)?

your system may weigh less with a Honda EU1000 generator

If this is hobby level or a proof of idea then look for a tyre inflation pump which runs from 12 V. Cheap and cheerful. It cannot run for protracted periods so you will need a pressostat to cut it off. What are the losses, what is the pressure?

If for a more proffesional apprach then try asking the compressor manufacturers like Atlas Copco or Ingersoll Rand. If their product ranges don't go small enough for you then they may well be able to point you i the right direction.

Hi PWS,

Yes, ideal source if OP is in UK but I suspect that with "32cu ft" he is from the other side of the atlantic.

The use of the air pump (blower) is to inflate a Life Suit to create and maintain (3 hours) a immediately available safe environment for an individual who is suddenly contronted by a poison gas leak or attack.

Hi Lifesuit,

I suspected from your pseudonym that it was some such safety sector device.

If you are pumping air into this suit then where will you get the air from? How can you assure that t is not contaminated? If you have some means / source of safe air then you will need a compressor which does not contaminate the air it pumps. This probably means a diaphragm compressor at this size. A blower, centrifugal or axial, may be adequate at the low positive pressures needed to keep a suit inflated

It seems to me that a compressed air tank as used by fire fighters might be more appropriate for this application.

Chas

Thanks. The air will come from the contaminated outside air, be pulled in through the CBRN filter and then expelled into the inflated suit for the occupant to breathe. One-way pressure valves will release the "breathed" air back to the outside. Air cannister will not work - they are short lived and heavy - when they are done, so is the occupant. Hope this helps.

Hi Lifesuit,

A one way valve won't be neccesary. the suit will be inflated and thus under positive pressure so your air will/ can only leak outwards, the contaminated air cannot get in unless the pumping stops in which case he has lost his source of breatheable air anyway.

regards

Chas

Yes. That is the REASON for a pump that has a 3-hr life with battery power producing at least 18 cfm. If you know of such a source - great! If not, I'll keep on looking. Thanks.

It is like you want to have a SUB-marine , not in water , in AIR.

How do you think to relief the CO2 from respiration?

What is the pressure drop at the filter?

Relieve CO2: One-way pressure valves

The pressure in the suit must remain positive to the outside (inflated) and the air pumped inside needs to be 325l/min.
