Use British Standard 7671, like all the others that have asked.

The first Guest is looking for BS7671. Teamwork makes for a better search.

cable size = f(conductor diameter, current carrying capacity, resistivity, conductor thermal conductivity, insulation thickness, insulation thermal conductivity, insulation maximum temperature(class), ....)

is it worth it?

Hi,

I give you a practical tip: for a short distance (<500m) the current rate should be 2A/mm2. for longer distance, it should be less than 2 (1-1,5). for VSD, it should be 1 (or less) depend on each application. for very short distance (some metter) you can increase the number but should not exceed 7A/mm2. Remember: this tip apply to Copper cable only. for Alumin cable, the number should devide 3 or 4.

Regards
