Tracking Machine Parts

06/12/2009 2:16 PM

I am looking for a software program that is solely for the use of researching parts and logging parts for machinery and can very easily be modified at any point of the program to fit specific needs. It would almost be like an automotive program that identifies model with parts associated with that specific model. It would easily be modified to reference other specified sn: of the same model incase of any special requirements or custom made parts or not so commonly used parts. example- if model ABC uses a valve that is commonly a 2-way valve installed but on another model (custom made for a customer) with the same model ABC but uses a special order valve that is a 4-way.

I want to be able to keep trackof these types of information regarding that machine model.

I am a small 2 person operation and am looking for an affordable software that can do this without going over $1000.00

any suggestions?

Google Inventory Software and see what there is.

Have you looked into Microsoft Office Access?

I like your question, but I think you will have to author your own. Most large scale ERP systems can do what you are asking for, but then you will be spending more than 1k$.

I suggest looking for configurators such as this one. (again, more than 1k$) This approach allows you to lay out different assemblies and arrive at different pricing. I've done something like it in excel, but its complicated, and would have to be personally customized to fit your application. Do you have an existing set of data, configurations, parts lists etc, already?

Hello hibusiness96755,

As you describe it, I would think Access would cope with the job.

You type in the details as you take the order or request and from then on the order details are available to reach from anywhere by the search feature of Microsoft.

If you have tried this please explain exactly what you have done.

SAP? How much would a person pay for such a program?

SAP or Systems Applications and Projects is a German company that specializes in Enterprise and Resource Planning applications and software which is very specialized requires a lot of training to use and costs $$$$. Even the convenient add ons are expensive.

They are the opposition to Oracle Corp - CEO Larry Ellison who develop the Oracle 9i database software.

A small company would be bankrupted by such a program.
