1991 Acura Integra RX - Two Problems

06/16/2009 5:34 PM

I have 2 problems.

1. When stopped the car idles.

2. When I accelerate the car acts like it wants to cut off and then it accelerates.

What might be causing both of these problems?

Hello Guest (whoever you are),

1) The definition of a car idling is when it is stopped with your foot off the accelerator; do you mean it idles even when you turn it off?

2) Check the fuel filter and replace if necessary.

1. If your car did not idle it would be racing, or it would stall. I think idling sounds like a good thing.

2. Check fuel pressure, and high voltage ignition system. ( coil, rotor, cap, plug wires, and spark plugs.)

Good luck.

I am uncertain what you mean about problem #1. The car should idle when stopped. Do you mean it will not idle , i.e. the engine dies or the idle is not smooth. i.e. it misses?

Question # 2 appears to be a surge. Check the throttle position sensor.
