Yes, trying to run a diesel engine on gasoline is counterproductive and is never recommended for obvious reasons.

Diesel engine not go BOOM on Gas. Gas not blow heads off diesel engine. Old Yankee trick is to add Gas to Diesel to stop gelling (not yelling) in many cold winter day. Our Government has made numerous "multi-fuel" engines for the military with great success. (Most of the older engines were mainly diesel.)

Have I put Gas in Diesel before? Yes, as long as there's enough diesel it will run but like a sick dog. Gas is not good for diesel pumps and injectors!

I am sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Are you confusing natural gas (methane) or propane gas with gasoline? It's comparing apples and oranges. Diesel engines run just fine on the former, if properly set up.

As to the later post, some early spark-ignition engines were started on gasoline, then when the manifolds were hot enough, they were switched to fuel oil (heated by the exhaust).
