Changing the Avatar

06/30/2009 11:15 AM

Decided I'd put a picture of myself there as some others do.

Had my wife take a picture.

Plugged the camera into the computer.

Checked the box to eliminate Avatar I've been using.

Selected JPG image. Hit Choose. No Success!

Try again, not selecting that check box, with the filename of the new avatar image in the box to the right of it, and report back!

Did you choose "Browse" and locate the actual file that you transfered from the camera, onto your hard drive?

You must point the browser to the file stored on your hard drive before it can upload it to the interwebs.

Seems like I tried that with pictures I found in my files other than the one I really wanted to use out of the camera.

Does using a Mac, make any difference?

Look at the format of actual and new avatar. Are they the same?

Well guys and gals, I succeeded.

To tell the truth I hardly know for sure what the one little thing I did, was finally the kicker.

Never did see that browser thing.

Think the picture is a bit contrasty, but what the hell.

It was a project. There are more things I need to know how to do...

I promise to change the picture soon, so it is of use for others, since I'm not really sure what the final thing I did was the final cause of my success. Thanks

hi Transcendian,

it could be any or a combination of these:

  • there's a monkey in your browser. I've noticed that my Mozilla Firefox is not behaving well, again. after typing a post, I click on "Preview", and nothing happens. I have to click soooooo many times to get it on. sometimes, I just copy and paste my post, and just hit Refresh, to force the issue. or,
  • your pic, is just so large that the CR4 server is rejecting it. try resizing it into 80 x 80 as the FAQ suggests what it'll do if you submit a big image. or,
  • it isn't really jpg format. in Explorer, right-click on the image file and select "Preview". if it's not a readable image file, it won't display. if it is, you should be able to see it. in that window, you can do the resizing to say, 120 x 120 so as not to lose so much details and just let CR4 do the resizing to 80x80. then, save it to jpg.

HTH!
