EMD special "file tools"

07/04/2009 12:28 PM

Happy 4th to all...

Now on to the question, does anyone out there have access to drawings of special "file tools" used to properly allign the accessary housing on EMD 567, 645, 710 engines????

I have done this job a couple times over the years by improvising, but would like very much to take the time to build the correct tools this time as I have a week or so before the repair.

Hi Tim

I Googled around and found this site, but didn't see the tool you need. http://www.tescotools.com/index.asp?p=/static/emdtools.html

Try Google all verisons of phrases for EMD specilty tools, etc.

Good luck

Thanks I am thankful for your efforts. This is why I don't have these tools, they are very hard to find and it seems that they need to be built rather than bought.

Unfortunately, when I have the engine apart I can not spend the time needed to build the tools. For this reason, I was thinking if some drawings were available they could be built ahead of time for the most part.

Regards,

Tim

Once upon a time . . . Sounds like a fairy tale!

When I worked at EMD many years ago, I vaguely recall that sometime the various fixture and lifting jig drawings were occasionally made available to customers. I do not recall the conditions or terms for providing this data to customers, but now that EMD is no longer part of GMC (or is that PvtFC MC?), it might not hurt to contact EMD and ask.

Worst case is they will say NO.

Perhaps you could contact the Canadian counterpart of EMD.
