Hi there,

Very simply put:

The pressure sensor is the element that is in contact with the process and senses the change in pressure. This could be a piezzo electric type or something similar.

The transmitter is the thing that transmits this pressure in electrical terms to your input card. This could be 4-20mA @ 24VDC.

Regards,

Craig

well ,sensor is the primary source of measurement senses and gives some small proportional signal as output

pressure transmitter it contains a sensor and its output is processed and transmitted in form of signal may be pulse signal ,or 4~20 ma or 1~5vdc or pneumatic signal . this signal again fed to the appropiate receiver in order to view the real pressure of the process,or given to contriller to control the pressure by a final control element namely controlvalve .

Okay, while I agree with the definitions given so far, the difference is actually lost on non-instrumentation-and-control people.

My job is in maintenance, and I keep getting calls from operators saying, "the pressure sensor's reading too high." Of course, I know that he really means "transmitter" since he has no way of getting a reading from the sensor part of the device.

It doesn't really present a big problem since we (the maintenance sectioni) understand what they mean when they say it. However, when technician1 is talking to technician2, he'd better be sure to say what he means because he'll be scolded, "are you really an instrumentation technician?"

regards,

Vulcan

hi

i accept with the above things. to my knowledge a sensor is a device which is in contact with the fluid passing through it and measures the reqiured pressure/temp this inturn connects with the transmitter which converts the signal to electronic signal and transmits to the respective destination.

By the words only it say that sensors senses and transmitters transmitts the signal.
