Video Sharing Software

07/10/2009 5:08 AM

I want to build a Video Sharing site and I'm trying to find which is the best value in Video Sharing Software but there are so many wild claims out there that it's hard to know what's good and what's not.

I've looked at some comparator sites but they mostly seem biased in favour of the particular brand they're pushing.

If anyone has got first hand experience of a product that is good value and works well for a start-up and is scaleable I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what you found.

Thanks a lot.

Video cameras now come with a "direct to YouTube" button... not to mention Google, Yahoo, etc.

Really, there are so many video sites.. why another? what differentiating features will you offer if you can't answer this question yourself, from your existing market research? Are you specializing in a particular type, like TeacherTube? Are you planning on making an income with this? Better off sticking to blogging if not. At least blogs rate very high on search engines, as they are updated frequently.

Hi Chris, thanks for replying and for the link.

I've searched every result on google and still not convinced there's an original off the shelf product out there - most seem to be derived on open source PHP but as I'm not a techie then I can't deal with that.

It seems that to build a video sharing site with PHP I would have to hire a techie who can adapt it or maybe write a program from scratch but I wanted to avoid that because of the costs involved.

I just wanted to start a site as an experiment - probably won't happen if I can't get something off the shelf - but even then I would still need a techie to hook it up but cost would be much less if we didn't need to write the basic program.

Anyway, Thanks again.

I still don't know what you are thinking of... but you can also share your video files peer to peer over torrent systems. (you need a download client) I'm not a web techie either... just a browser.

so if your files are degraded for streaming, youtube is excellent. if your files are HD or large.. use a torrent.

you might also try this site for information. just type in what you are searching for.

Chris - I don't want to post videos on a site - I want to start up my own YouTube type of site and have other people post their videos on there and I need the software to run such a site.

Sorry, I must not have explained properly.

You're looking for software to build a video sharing website.

Not software for video sharing.

Knowing what you need is half the answer.
